Overview

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids: Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) derived from a partial sequence of human gastric juice protein BPC. It is stable in gastric acid and has been extensively studied in rodent models for its effects on tissue repair, angiogenesis, and gastrointestinal protection. BPC-157 has no known endogenous receptor but modulates multiple growth factor pathways.

Mechanism of Action

BPC-157 upregulates VEGF expression and promotes angiogenesis through nitric oxide (NO) pathway modulation. It activates FAK-paxillin signaling to accelerate fibroblast migration and tendon cell outgrowth. In gastrointestinal models, it protects against NSAID-induced lesions by maintaining mucosal integrity and modulating prostaglandin synthesis. BPC-157 also interacts with the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems in CNS models. Its cytoprotective effects appear to be mediated partly through upregulation of the growth hormone receptor and EGR-1 transcription factor.

Recommended Solvent

Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol)

Standard Volume

Add 2 mL bacteriostatic water to a 5 mg vial to yield a 2500 mcg/mL solution. For a 500 mcg/mL working solution, add 10 mL.

Working Concentration

Common working concentrations: 500 mcg/mL or 1000 mcg/mL.

Storage (Reconstituted)

Reconstituted: 2–8°C, use within 28 days. Lyophilized: -20°C, desiccated.

Stability Window

Stable for 28 days refrigerated. BPC-157 is relatively stable in solution compared to many peptides.

Technique

Inject bacteriostatic water slowly along the vial wall. Gently swirl until dissolved. BPC-157 dissolves readily — solution should be clear within 60 seconds.

Notes

BPC-157 is one of the more stable peptides in solution. Bacteriostatic water is strongly preferred over sterile water for extended research use.

Clinical / Human Research Range

No approved clinical dosing. Human trials have used 10 mcg/kg oral and parenteral routes.

Preclinical Models

Rodent studies: 10 mcg/kg to 10 mg/kg, subcutaneous or intraperitoneal. Most published studies use 10 mcg/kg as the effective dose in rats.

Calculation Example

For a 500 mcg/mL solution: a 250 mcg research dose = 0.5 mL. Use an insulin syringe (0.5 mL / 50 unit) for precision dosing.
